About the Site

Twitter-images.com is one of the largest sources of free twitter backgrounds. The site has a very nice and easy to navigate design with a custom content management system for uploading content. The new owner will get all of the .PSD background files. Revenue comes from the sales of custom backgrounds, which sold at $49 and personalized backgrounds sold at $9.99.

What I Like About This Site

For one, the design of this site is very nice. It’s easy to use and well laid out. The site ranks highly for the keywords ‘twitter background’ and ‘twitter images’ and, in fact, has strong organic traffic from the Google.

The site has some revenue, but is under-monetized. I think adding in one or two affiliate banners for twitter related products could really increase profits.

The Flippa verified traffic stats and the non-spammy listing give me a sense of trust. The new owner will also receive over 1000 new backgrounds that have not been uploaded to the site yet and another domain twityts.com (PR2).

What I Don’t Like About The Site

The seller has not posted any revenue screenshots and his trust rating is fairly low. He hasn’t bought or sold anything on Flippa before.

The custom CMS might work out just fine, but if it’s buggy or something goes wrong, you could end up with a really big mess.

The current revenue model (custom backgrounds) is not very passive at all and doesn’t fit with my personal “webpreneur” strategy. I’m not particularly artistic and would not be able to create custom background designs. However, the addition of some ads or affiliate products would help.

The Final Word

This looks like a great site. I think Twitter still has some growing to do, although it has sort of flat-lined over the past several months. For the right owner, namely one that can design custom backgrounds, this could be a pretty nice site. I highly doubt it will go for less than one year’s net profits.

What do you think? Is this the sort of site you’d be interested in? What value would you assign to the site?

Honestly, I’m not sure. Ultimately website valuation is a bit like real estate in that a website is only worth what someone is willing to pay. If I was in the market for a site like this, I might consider paying up to around the $4000 mark. I do think the site is under-monetized and could be a good investment in that respect.

I sure wouldn’t pay the BIN of $10,000 though. That’s just crazy IMO.

I don’t know, this kind of site is largely depends on twitter, and a site like twitter, I’m not sure that it will last for more than 3 years.

Hi Henry, thanks for your comment. I agree with you on the uncertainty of Twitter… Although Twitter is popular now, will it be able to keep growing? Or has it hit its peak? That’s why I wouldn’t pay more than 1.5 years net profits on this site.
